Adding Bathroom shelves

Storage storage storage... who doesn’t need more storage?!

Our master bathroom is tiny and I'm always looking for different ways to add storage to our rooms.

There was a 1 foot wide wall next to our shower, and I’ve seen how other people have put storage cupboards between studs in the wall. So I thought that maybe we could do the same thing.

I was curious to see what was behind the wall so I cut a small hole just big enough to see and decided that we had enough space we could add some shelves.

It was a fairly easy project.

We cut out the whole for how wide and tall we wanted our selves. The hole was about 8 1/2 inches wide and 87 inches tall. (My husband was very skeptical! He thought it wasn't really worth the time since it was such a small space and the shelves would be very small. But I was determined, so he helped anyway)

Using quarter-inch plywood for the sides and back... and 1x10 boards that we had lying around, we built the shelves. Each shelf measuring 13 inches tall 8 inches wide and 8 1/2 inches deep.

{I forgot to take pictures of the one we built but it was similar to these shelves}

Thankfully our measurements were perfect for the hole that we cut in the wall and the shelves slid right into place, then we screwed the shelves to the studs on each side.

All that was left was to add some trim, caulk all the cracks, then prime and paint it.

The shelves are really small but it helps a lot to get all of the clutter off the counter and since they’re not very deep it’s easy to see everything that’s on the shelf to find what we’re looking for.

One nice thing about having a small bathroom... you don’t have room for a lot of extra unnecessary items.

Aren't home projects fun!
